Tata Electronics Brings In Malaysia's IAQ Group for Dholera Fab Cleanrooms

The news: Tata Electronics has partnered with Malaysia-based cleanroom specialist IAQ Group to design and install cleanroom infrastructure at its $11 billion semiconductor fabrication plant under construction in Dholera, Gujarat. IAQ Group will handle this on a turnkey basis as part of the 300 mm (12-inch) wafer fabrication project. 

Why the Cleanroom Deal Matters

The cleanroom is among the largest and most technically demanding sections of a fab and is installed before manufacturing equipment arrives, since such facilities need tightly controlled airborne particles, temperature and humidity to prevent contamination during chip production. Industry sources quoted in reporting called cleanroom readiness the critical bottleneck for tool installation and fab ramp-up, noting Tata's priority now is not just building manufacturing capability but also schedule certainty for tool move-in and ramp-up. 

Who Is IAQ Group

Established in 1994, IAQ Group provides engineering and cleanroom solutions for high-technology industries and has previously worked on semiconductor projects involving Texas Instruments and Infineon. 

Adds to a Growing List of Global Partners

The IAQ agreement adds to Tata Electronics' list of international partnerships for the Dholera project, which already includes Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), ASML and Intel. Construction work at the Gujarat site is currently underway.
